Destination weddings are fantastic for everyone involved. It’s a wonderful opportunity to travel and see new sights, as well as partake in different adventures with loved ones. However, choosing the right destination for you and your future spouse can be tricky. Here are ten pieces of advice as you take the first step in planning your fantasy wedding. 

    •    If you plan on traveling outside of the United States, let people know as soon as possible. Some people’s passports may be outdated, and the updating process may take months. On that note, better check your passports too! 
    •    Another reason to let people know as soon as possible is that airplane prices escalate the longer you wait. It would be a shame if someone couldn’t witness your special day because of money. 
    •    Some places may not be handicap accessible, especially if you want to say your I do’s on a beautiful paradise island in the middle of nowhere. This can be a problem if you are inviting anyone who is physically handicapped or elderly. 
    •    Landmarks and public gardens both make fantastic choices, but they will not shut down just because you are having a wedding. While some may say “the more, the merrier,” this can be a problem if you don’t want to have random tourists in the background of your candid shots. 
    •    Traveling outside of your home country also requires you looking into the place’s legal requirements for a valid marriage, and how that would transfer once you go back home. 
    •    Distance can be a deterrent for some. Layovers, especially for families with young children, are daunting. This isn't to say you can't have your wedding at some fabulous, far-off location. However, don’t be too disappointed if some people RSVP no. 
    •    Take the local weather into account. Some places may be sunny but are subject to monsoon seasons. It’d be a shame if your sunshine wedding turns into a downpour. 
    •    If you have no idea where you want to go, write down things that you would like to have at your wedding. Do you like resorts? Do you care more about the food? Have your significant other do the same and compare. 
    •    Visit the location before the wedding. The vibe is important, and so is the ambiance. Unfortunately, these things are hard to gauge on paper. Nothing beats seeing the site yourself. 
    •    Get the proper travel insurance
